Central Academy was established in 1985 by the Des Moines School District. The Academy is a program dedicated to providing a challenging, fast-paced, academic curriculum for students with exceptional abilities. Students are offered unique benefits from excellent instruction, high standards of expectations and performance, appropriate high-level curriculum and the benefit of interaction with peers of similar high academic abilities. Eligibility is based on student performance, staff recommendations and high levels of achievement on nationally normed tests, such as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.
